A return to sunny skies and dry weather this week

This week’s weather pattern is a familiar one—its looking like summer temperatures and dry weather are in store for the region.

After some rain washed over the area this weekend, Meteorologist Dan Spaeth with the National Weather Service in Paducah says it’s a return to sunny skies and warm temperatures, feeling much more like summer again.

Unfortunately, what rain we did receive over the weekend won’t do much to rid us of our drought status, with most of western Kentucky remaining under a ‘severe drought’ designation.

In the 8-to-14 day outlook, it’s looking like warmer than average temperatures are in store, but there could also be some above average changes for precipitation.

Spaeth says it will take several inches of rain to bust the severe label, and beneficial rainfall would need to fall consistently for some time to get rid of the drought conditions completely.  It’s looking like summer isn’t quite ready to give way to fall just yet.
