Members of the community and local organizations gathered outside of the Christian County Justice Center on Saturday for the inaugural Spring Recovery Block Party hosted by Oxford House and Jeremiah’s Mission.
Oxford House and Jeremiah’s Mission are addiction recovery nonprofits that provide sober living conditions for former addicts while helping them be productive members of the community. At Saturday’s event, other addiction recovery focused organizations had booths set up to provide information regarding recovery options in the region.
Along with spotlighting addiction resources the event featured live music, recovery testimonials, free food and activities for children.
Donald Weatherwax, the training and education coordinator for Oxford House says the event served to highlight regional recovery options as well as show that recovering addicts have the ability to give back to their community.
Jeremiah’s Mission Co-founder Jackie Demarco says she was happy they were able to have multiple addiction recovery organizations at the event that are all working toward the same mission of saving and changing lives.
One of the organizations at the event was Addiction Recovery Care (ARC), a faith-based addiction recovery resource with multiple locations across Kentucky. Timmy Hendricks from ARC shared that they have a crisis to career recovery model which serves to help recovery addicts find employment.
Oxford House and Jeremiah’s Mission are set to partner back up on August 31 to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day.
