Exit 111 of I-69 in Hopkins Co. to close for treatment this weekend

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close northbound Exit 111 of Interstate 69 in Madisonville this weekend to apply a new high friction treatment.

High friction surface treatments pavement treatments designed to increase friction in potentially high crash areas, resulting in motorists being able to maintain better control in both wet and dry driving conditions. According to a news release, a research report published by the Federal Highway Administration suggests that HFST reduce wet crashes by as much as 83 percent and total crashes by 57 percent.

Weather permitting, northbound Exit 111 to KY 2171—or “the Earlington Cut-Off”—will close beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, with the hope of reopening by 6 a.m. on Monday, April 15.
