City Council recognizes retiring firefighter, new recruits

A longtime member of the Hopkinsville Fire Department who is retiring was honored and six firefighter recruits who completed training were sworn in at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville City Council meeting.

Department Fire Chief, Steve Futrell started the meeting by recognizing, retiring Battalion Chief, Chip Renshaw who has worked with the department since 2003. Futrell shares that Renshaw is looked up to by his fellow firefighters and it will be hard to fill his shoes.

Renshaw was presented with a plaque recognizing his 20 years of service and the accomplishments he made during his tenure.

Futrell then turned his attention toward six new firefighters who completed training and are officially members of the fire department. Futrell shares that the training recruits completed was a rigorous nine-week long program.

Hopkinsville Mayor, J.R. Knight swore in Carlos Beltran, Anthony Hillery, Robert Scott, Andrew Entsminger, Terry Cansler and Francesco Lionetti.

Following the fire department’s recognitions, the council discussed and approved ordinances on their second readings. The Council approved for Quarry Street to be renamed “Pastor CE Timberlake Way” a request from First Street Baptist Church and they also approved to amend the 2023-2024 budget to reflect current revenues and expenses.
