A Hopkinsville man has been charged with second-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted his mother at a location on Phelps Avenue.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, officers responded to the residence in the 1500 block of Phelps around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning and upon arrival, had to kick in the door due to the victim being immobile. Contact was made with the victim, who was laying on the floor with swelling on her face, multiple contusions and bleeding from her legs.
There was reportedly blood all over the floor, along with several items and broken glass from a coffee table, showing there had been a physical altercation.
The victim told officers that her son, 30-year-old Phillip Robnett, had struck her in the face several times before picking her up and slamming her onto the glass table.
Robnett had fled the scene prior to police arrival, but he was later located by officers on the rail trail. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault.
