Take Kids Fishing Day is taking over Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center this Saturday, and along with catching plenty of fish, kids will have numerous water activities to take part in.
Appearing on WHOP Wednesday morning, Charles Turner and Diane Croney-Turner with Jeffers’ Bend say it’ll be a big event Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Turner says they historically have pretty big crowds, with the combination of water events, they think people will enjoy the new take on the traditional event.
He says they’ll release this year’s “Big Jeff”—an oversized catfish that wins the grand prize—but there’s a good chance there’s a prior Big Jeff still swimming around.
Croney-Turner urges people to get their kids pre-registered for the event to save a little money, and don’t forget to bring towels, as there will be plenty of water-based events and fun to be had.
Some of those events include a water slide, water exercises with the Hopkinsville Fire Department, a water obstacle course and more, along with the traditional fishing along the river and at the Jeffers’ Bend lake at their location on Metcalfe Lane in Hopkinsville.
