Several local Memorial Day services scheduled through Monday

Memorial Day will be commemorated in services and ceremonies across the region between now and Monday.

The City of Madisonville will host a ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday at the city’s Veterans Memorial. It’s open to the public and will also be streamed on the City of Madisonville Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Trenton will host its annual Memorial Day service Sunday afternoon at 2 at Edgewood Cemetery.

City Clerk Carol Chester says this year’s featured speaker is Traveler’s Lantern owner Jason House, who is also a military veteran.

Hopkinsville’s VFW Post 1913 continues its tradition of two services Monday—the first at 9 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery and the second at 11 a.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West and lunch will follow at noon at the VFW building next to Kroger off Skyline Drive.

Post Commander John Brame says it’s important for folks to observe Memorial Day as much more than just an occasion to cook out and have a good time—it’s a day to remember those who gave all defending freedom.

Crofton hosts its Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. Monday at the North Christian Veteran’s Memorial Park located behind Crofton City Hall on Highway 41, with Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam to be among those speaking.
