(Undated) — The SEC Tournament tipped off from Nashville last night. Today Number-19 Tennessee will play Ole Miss while Vanderbilt squares off against LSU. Kentucky will play either Vanderbilt or LSU on Friday. Memphis also plays on Friday in the AAC Tournament in Fort Worth. The Tigers will play either SMU or UCF. Louisville fell to Boston College in the ACC Tournament earlier in the week.
WKU Hilltopper Basketball Advances to C-USA Championship Quarterfinals; Top-Seeded Florida Atlantic Slated as Tops’ Next Opponent
WKU Hilltopper Basketball overcame a 16-point deficit to beat the UTEP Miners on Wednesday night 73-67, advancing to the Conference USA Championship Quarterfinals. WKU had five players in double-figure scoring for the first time since November. Jamarion Sharp led WKU in scoring and rebounding for the second consecutive game with 16 points and eight boards. He also blocked three shots and made six free throws. Dayvion McKnight scored 13, all in the second half, and dished out seven assists to just three turnovers. Dontaie Allen went 4 of 7 from the arc and scored 14 points to go along with his four boards. UTEP was paced by Calvin Solomon who had 18 points and eight rebounds.
After surviving the first round, WKU Hilltopper Basketball has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship and will take on top-seeded Florida Atlantic on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. CT. The Hilltoppers beat UTEP 73-67 to move into Thursday night action while Florida Atlantic claimed the regular-season championship and had a bye to start the tournament. WKU has advanced to the semi-finals of its conference championship in 14 of the last 17 seasons. The Hilltoppers are 22-6 in league championship quarterfinals dating back to 1983.
Lady Toppers Face UAB in C-USA Championship Quarterfinals
The No. 2 seeded WKU women’s basketball will face off against No. 10 UAB on Thursday afternoon in Frisco, Texas in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
Racers Open Hoops In the Heartland Thursday
The eighth-seeded Murray State women’s basketball team begins its quest for the first Missouri Valley Conference championship in program history Thursday when it opens play at the 2023 Hoops in the Heartland MVC Women’s Basketball Championship against ninth-seeded Evansville at 12 p.m. at the Vibrant Arena at the MARK in Moline, Illinois.
Young Named First Team All-MVC
For the third time in her career, Katelyn Young of the Murray State women’s basketball team is a first team all-conference selection. The junior was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team at the league’s annual banquet Wednesday at the Rhythm City Resort in Davenport, Iowa. Young is currently ninth in the nation and leads the Missouri Valley in scoring with 21.3 points per game. She is also currently fourth in the conference in rebounds per game at 7.8. Earlier this season, the junior scored a career-high 43 points against Drake in addition to scoring 20-plus points 15 times, 10-plus points 28 times and notching 11 double-doubles.
Govs inaugural ASUN Championship run comes to an end in semifinals
Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team had its inaugural ASUN Conference Women’s Basketball Championship run come to an end in the tournament’s semifinals following a 51-34 loss to No. 23 Florida Gulf Coast, Wednesday, at Alico Arena. Austin Peay (17-12) held the ASUN’s top scoring and three-point to a season-low 51 points, and five triples, but was held to just 26.9 percent from the field itself and without a three-pointer for the first time since Dec. 2006. Shamarre Hale led the Governors in scoring for the 13th time this season with 14 points, while Jada Roberson’s team-best eight rebounds were one off her season-high set in January.
