Grand jury returns indictments for murder, assault

Multiple indictments were returned Friday by a Christian County Grand Jury, including for murder, assault and rape.

Indicted for the May shooting death of 33-year-old Christopher Montrell Mumford is 32-year old Tavaris Quarles of Hopkinsville, who is alleged to have shot Mumford when he went to a home in the 800 block of East Fourth Street and knocked on the door. Quarles reportedly shot Mumford after opening the door and then fled the scene.

 

 

 

Also indicted for murder is 21-year-old Tyron Holt of Clarksville—he is alleged to have fatally shot 18-year-old Gailon Toler multiple times at the steps and entryway of a Tyler Street home in Oak Grove in May of this year.

 

 

 

Forty-seven-year-old Stacy Botts of Elkton has been indicted for first-degree assault, after he allegedly went to the home of his ex-wife’s boyfriend in Fairview and attacked him with a metal pipe, causing serious physical injuries that sent the victim to the hospital.

 

 

 

The grand jury has indicted 22-year-old Jose Mendoza of Clarksville for three counts of second-degree rape, three counts second-degree sodomy, three counts first-degree sexual abuse and three counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor under 16 years of age. Mendoza allegedly had sexual relations with a minor under the age of 14 on three occasions in December of 2020.
