John Mahre, architect and longtime community advocate, dies at 65

Accomplished architect and longtime community advocate John Mahre died earlier this week at the age of 65, according to information from Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home.

Mahre previously served as chairman of the Christian County Chamber of Commerce, as president of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club and the West Kentucky Chamber Alliance and served on several boards including those for the Pennyrile Area Development District, Kentuckians for Better Transportation, Kentucky and National Associations of Counties, the Delta Regional Authority and he was a founder and member of Citizens for Fort Campbell.

Several years ago, PADD named its regionalism award in honor of Mahre. In 2017, he received the final W.W. Bill Bryan Award from PADD.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with visitation Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the church.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
