>>QB Baker Mayfield Traded To Carolina Panthers For 5th Round Pick

(Undated)  —  Quarterback Baker Mayfield is being traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers.  The Browns will get a 2024 conditional fifth round pick for Mayfield.  He requested a move from Cleveland after the team was trying to trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson, which it ultimately did.  Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and played in two playoff games with the Browns in 2020.

>>Brittney Griner Heading Back To Court Today

(Phoenix, AZ)  —  WNBA star Brittney Griner is due back in court today in Russia.  The Phoenix Mercury star stands accused of having under a gram of cannabis oil in her luggage when she was arrested at the airport in Moscow back in February.  That’s where she plays during the WNBA’s offseason.  Griner has written to President Biden expressing concern that she’ll never be allowed to return home.

>>NHL Entry Draft Preview

(Montreal, QC)  —  The future of the NHL is taking center stage in Montreal.  The first round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft is tonight. The Montreal Canadiens are slated to pick first.  The New Jersey Devils, Arizona Coyotes, Seattle Kraken, and Philadelphia Flyers round out the remaining teams in the top five.

(Montreal)  —  The Predators are preparing for the N-H-L draft.  The team has pick number 17 tonight which will feature round one only with the rest of the picking taking place tomorrow.  The draft begins at 6:00.

>>Iowa Commit Jones Gets Injured In Car Collision

(Louisville, KY)  —  Iowa’s latest women’s basketball commit remains in serious condition after getting hit by a car in Louisville late Tuesday night.  Ava Jones and three members of her family were struck by a vehicle that was being operated by Michael Hurley, who was charged with four counts of assault and driving under the influence.  Jones verbally committed to the Hawkeyes program on Sunday.  The Kansas native is in serious condition while her parents are both in critical condition.

>>Report: Heat Sign Caleb Martin To Three-Year Deal

(Undated)  —  The Heat are bringing back one of their top bench scorers.  ESPN reports Miami has agreed to a three-year, 20-million dollar deal with forward Caleb Martin.  The 26-year-old returns to the Heat after having a career-best season.  Martin averaged 9.2 points per game and shot 50.7-percent from the field in his first season with Miami.  The news also comes on the same day that the Hornets announced their signing of Martin’s twin brother, Cody.

(North Berwick, Scotland)  —  The top golfers across the globe will be playing in this weekend’s Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in Scotland.  Min Woo Lee is the defending champion after winning last year’s tournament in a playoff.

>>Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi NBA 2K23 “WNBA Edition” Cover Revealed

(Undated)  —  Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are being revealed as the cover athletes for NBA 2K23’s “WNBA Edition.”  The Phoenix Mercury’s Taurasi and Seattle Storm’s Bird were teammates together at the University of Connecticut, bringing home the 2002 National Championship.  With the cover release, the two WNBA stars are partnering to donate 100-thousand-dollars to Every Kid Sports and it’ll cover youth basketball registration fees for 550 girls.

>>Jeffery Simmons Ranks Second Among All Defensive Tackles

(Nashville, TN)  —  A Titans player is gaining recognition for being one of the best defensive players in the league.  E-S-P-N ranked Jeffery Simmons as the N-F-L’s second-best Defensive Tackle behind Aaron Donald.  The list surveyed more than 50 league executives, coaches, scouts, and players to grade the top ten players in each position.
