The smells of barbecue and the sounds of music will fill the air at Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville Friday afternoon for the return of Squealin’ on the Square.
While the food being prepared by six teams for the barbecue competition will be up for purchase by the public starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Coordinator Toby Hudson says the competitors will be on-site bright and early that morning to start cooking and getting ready for judges.
Squealin’ on the Square will combine with Sounds at Six, where Superintendent Tab Brockman says the band Entice will get people dancing and having fun.
He says they’ll start wrapping things up around 9 p.m. and urges folks to come by and feel free to bring their families to enjoy the evening in downtown Hopkinsville.
Only a portion of Bethel Street that runs next to Founders Square will be closed for the event, and Brockman says there’s plenty of parking to be found at the Christian County Justice Center. There are three food competition categories, including beef, pork and chicken, and there are cash prizes up for grabs.
