After her first trial that ended with a guilty verdict and life sentence was overturned by the Kentucky Supreme Court due to prosecutorial misconduct, 36-year old Karen Brafman of Cerulean accepted a plea deal Tuesday morning that comes with a 20 year sentence.
Brafman set a mobile home on fire with six people, including four minors, inside on Princeton Road in May of 2018.
Circuit Judge John Atkins read the plea offer negotiated between Brafman’s attorney and the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office—noting she’s pleading guilty to two counts of arson and six counts of attempted murder.
Brafman waived formal sentencing and Judge Atkins imposed the 20 year sentence set forth in the deal.
Brafman will not be parole-eligible until she’s served at least 17 ½ years of her sentence and she’ll get credit for being incarcerated for the last four years.
