MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 5/6/22

NHL

The Nashville Predators gave up an overtime goal in a 2-1 loss against the Colorado Avalanche in game two of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at Ball Arena. The series shifts to Nashville for game three tomorrow afternoon at 3:30.

NFL

The Tennessee Titans are making more progress in their quest for a new stadium. The organization selected Manica Architecture to design the first concepts for its future home. Tennessee lawmakers approved 500-million dollars in bonds for the new field last month, and the project is projected to cost over two-billion dollars. The team is hoping to complete the new stadium before the 2026 season.

Horse Racing

The first leg of the Triple Crown takes place this weekend for the 148th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. 20 thoroughbreds are in the field with some of the favorites including Zandon, Epicenter, and Messier. Taiba will be racing from post number 12 in just his third career start. Post time is at 4:37 Central time tomorrow afternoon.

Golf

Jason Day is leading the Wells Fargo Championship after the first round at TPC Potomac. Day shot a 63 to lead at seven under par. Joel Dahmen is alone in second place at six under through one round. Five golfers are tied for third at five under par.
