MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 2/25/22

MLB

Major League Baseball and the Players Association are continuing negotiations to end the league’s current lockout. The sides met for a fourth straight day Thursday, though no progress was made toward agreeing on a new collective bargaining agreement. Talks are now on a time crunch as the sides effort to avoid delaying Opening Day, which is scheduled for March 31st.

NBA

Ja Morant had 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the Memphis Grizzlies 119-114 loss at the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Grizzlies are back in action tomorrow night at the Chicago Bulls.

NHL

Mikael Granlund scored the winning goal in a shootout as the Nashville Predators edged the Dallas Stars 2-1. Former Predators goalie Pekka Rinne had his number 35 retired before the game. The Predators welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning in an NHL Stadium Series game tomorrow night at Nissan Stadium.

Golf

Kurt Kitayama is in sole possession of first place late in the first round of the Honda Classic at PGA National that was suspended due to darkness Thursday. Kitayama is six-under par after shooting a 64 in round one. In a three-way tie for second place Rory Sabbatini, Daniel Berger, and Chris Kirk shot five-under. Several other golfers are in a five-way tie at three-under par.

First round play takes place today at the PGA Tour Champions Cologuard Classic in Tucson, AZ.
