Richard Street murder case heads to grand jury

The murder case against Daron Bell, who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Gregory Burse on Richard Street, now heads to the grand jury for consideration of indictment.

A preliminary hearing was held in Christian District Court Friday morning for Bell, who appeared virtually before Judge Foster Cotthoff along with defense attorney Doug Moore.  Hopkinsville Police Detective Jason Sears testified that Bell had told a friend on February 2 that they better go ‘check on’ Burse, allegedly telling them that he had shot Burse earlier in the day.

Burse would be discovered with gun shot wounds to the torso—he was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he would be pronounced deceased.  During an interview with police, detectives learned that there had been an alleged argument between Bell and Burse over rent money, during which Burse was shot.

Moore clarified that the guns that were found in the residence did not match the bullets that killed Burse.

After hearing the evidence, Judge Cotthoff determined there was probable cause and sent the case to be considered by a Christian County Grand Jury for possible indictment.  He also left Bell’s bond at $500,000, due to the evidence and the severity of the charge.
