Salvation Army seeking donations to help keep extreme weather event shelter open

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville has been hard at work providing for those most in the need in the community, and they’re asking for help to keep that going.

Alissa Barton oversees the operations of the soup kitchen, the social services office and the emergency shelter for the local Salvation Army and she says they have already had several very cold nights this year where they have opened the emergency weather shelters.  She says she expects that trend to continue, and that cold weather shelter serves those who have no where else to go at night to stay warm.

Unfortunately, Barton says they’re quickly working through their existing budget, and they’re putting out a call for help and donations.

She says people can contact her for more information, and the cost to keep the shelter open for one night of warmth is about $200.
