East 18th St. shooting suspect arraigned in circuit court

The man charged in a shooting incident that injured two people on East 18th Street the day before Thanksgiving last year was arraigned in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Demario White appeared before Judge John Atkins, who accepted a not guilty plea from public defender Rick Sandborn on his behalf to charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a handgun by a felon, tampering with evidence and wanton endangerment.

He remains in the Christian County Jail on a $50,000 bond and Sandborn says he’ll be filing a motion soon to try to reduce that amount. In the meantime, a pre-trial conference was scheduled for March 2.

White allegedly shot 28-year old Devaunte Hampton in the leg at 1200 East 18th and fired a shot that grazed a female, causing her only minor injuries.
