Todd Fiscal Court met for the first time in 2022 Friday morning and approved a resolution that helps pave the way for the recently announced expansion of Novelis in Guthrie.
Magistrates unanimously approved a bond resolution for up to $1.6 million that County Attorney Jeff Traughber says is for purchase of a tract of land near the current plant on Old Railroad Lane, where Novelis is investing $365 million for construction of a recycling center that will create 140 jobs.
Meanwhile, Todd Fiscal Court committed $100,000 toward the local match in an application for a $3.3 million grant to the Economic Development Administration that would help fund renovation projects at the Historic Todd County Courthouse, Green River Academy, Robert Penn Warren Museum and the Milliken Memorial House.
The courthouse is owned by Todd Fiscal Court and $1.3 million of the grant funds would help renovate the upstairs of the facility.
Historic Todd County, Inc. had asked the court for $200,000, but Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield said the county could comfortably afford to designate half of that amount.
Private fundraising is ongoing by Historic Todd County and they’ve already committed $60,000 of their own funds, with Randall Powell thanking fiscal court for their action Friday.
The grant application process is being administered by the Pennyrile Area Development District.
