Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch has announced that he will not seek re-election to that office in 2022.
Mayor Lynch has served as mayor since winning a special election in 2020, after serving as interim mayor after Carter Hendricks stepped down from that office. He made the announcement on the WHOP Early Bird Show Tuesday morning, saying the decision comes after a lot of contemplation and discussion, but he remains committed to the City of Hopkinsville and will give his all for the remainder of his term.
Lynch has guided the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and says he’s proud of the employees and the citizens for their determination through the crisis, saying he’s eager to see where the city goes from here.
He says he has a tremendous team at City Hall that he’s honored to work with every day.
Lynch served as longtime city councilmember representing Ward 6 before his election to Mayor, and has served the community in many ways long before that, including with Pioneers, Inc.
Three people have already filed to run for mayor of Hopkinsville, including Democrat Michael Pendleton and republicans J.R. Knight and Vince Farrel.
