The Novelis Aluminum plant in Guthrie is officially open for business after a grand opening ceremony was held Wednesday morning at the facility on Old Railroad Road in Todd County.
The 500,000 square foot facility that employs roughly 150 people has been in some level of operation for some time now, but opening celebrations had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was finally able to take place Monday, with Plant Manager Tom Lilienthal saying they’re looking forward to being a part of the Guthrie community, as this couldn’t have happened without great partnerships.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says this has helped put Todd County on the map.
Governor Andy Beshear was in attendance for the celebration, and says the facility is a great victory not just for Todd County, but all of Kentucky.
He says it continues to be an economically impactful year, as the Commonwealth recovers from the pandemic, and he’s confident the state has what it takes to be a leader in industry.
Novelis is a global recycler and producer of aluminum, operating 33 advanced rolling and recycling facilities in nine countries across North and South America, Europe and Asia. The Guthrie location heat treats and pre-heats rolled aluminum coils used to manufacture automotive body panel-grade aluminum sheets. Attendees were able to take tours and learn more about the facility that now calls Todd County home.
