Death of infant investigated in Trigg County, mother charged with abuse of corpse

Kentucky State Police is investigating the death of an infant in Trigg County.

KSP says they were notified of a deceased infant at a home on E. Adams Mill Road Tuesday night.

Detectives determined 28-year old Shaylynn Curtis had been residing with her five-month old baby at the residence and the baby died Monday night due to reasons that remain under investigation.

Curtis took the deceased infant and drove to a friend’s house. She then returned home, wrapped the infant in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of the home, according to a news release.

Police say Curtis did not make any attempts to call 911 or seek medical assistance for the infant. Friends of Curtis who were concerned about the welfare of the infant contacted 911.

Detectives with Kentucky State Police arrested and charged Shaylynn Curtis with abuse of a corpse.

Results of an autopsy are pending.
