Hopkinsville City Council hears financial report, approves budget amendments

Hopkinsville City Council heard the financial report at Tuesday’s meeting and approved amendments to the operational budget.

Two months have already passed of the fiscal year, and Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin says while it is currently in a deficit, that’s normal for this time of year and he expects it to go back into the positive as they begin collecting property taxes.

Martin says the city currently has an available cash balance of $11.4 million, which he says is very healthy.

Council approved two ordinances on second-reading approving amendments to the operational and capitals budget to reflect an increase of $374,000 for renovations to the First City Bank building, approximately $80,000 to the EMS department, and transfers from the general fund to the capitol budget.
