Vote on Oklahoma & Texas to join SEC takes place today

Southeastern Conference presidents and chancellors are to meet today to extend invitations to Oklahoma and Texas to become members of the SEC. The schools need 11 of 14 votes from SEC presidents and chancellors for the two schools to join the league on July 1, 2025.

It was also reported yesterday Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby essentially accused ESPN of meddling in the Big 12’s affairs, intentionally helping Texas and Oklahoma defect from the conference. Bowlsby also alleges that ESPN is actively trying to break up the remaining Big 12 programs.

The American Athletic Conference is attempting engage with a number of potential Big 12 additions to the conference. The Athletic reports that the AAC has reached out to as many as three to five Big 12 members about possibly leaving their conference. The AAC has taken an aggressive approach to potential realignment and desires to add multiple Big 12 schools with the support of ESPN. The conference declined to make a statement on the Big 12/ESPN situation on Wednesday.
