Hugs for the Holidays campaign shows support to families separated by nursing home lockdown

An effort is underway to bring the Hugs for the Holidays pink bow campaign to Kentucky as a way to show support to people isolated in a nursing home this Christmas and their loved ones who are not allowed to visit them during the pandemic.

Marla Carter is on the Ombudsman Advisory Council at the Green River Area Development District and notes that nursing home residents on COVID lockdown won’t get to spend even part of their holidays with their family members.

The Hugs for the Holidays campaign began in Tennessee by a group who want each nursing home resident to have one loved one as a designee who would be allowed to visit and check their welfare.

Anyone wanting to show those families support this Christmas is encouraged to tie a bright pink bow onto a mailbox, tree or any other prominent place in their yard.

Those who do display a pink bow are encouraged to share a photo on social media and encourage other Kentuckians to do the same.
