Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is sounding the alarm on COVID-19 in the state, as he reported 2,700 new cases Wednesday and the positivity rate jumped over eight percent.
According to a news release, Kentuckians are in significantly greater danger of contracting COVID-19 now than they were in March or April, when the pandemic began in the state. The 2,700 new cases is a record for the Commonwealth, and the positivity rate is now at 8.12 percent.
Governor Beshear says everyone must take the pandemic more seriously in order to protect themselves, their families and their community.
He also announced 14 new deaths, bringing the death toll up to 1,604. Christian, Trigg, Muhlenberg, Hopkins, Caldwell, Lyon and Logan are listed as ‘red’ or ‘critical’ zones on the state incidence rate map, while Todd County has since returned to ‘orange’.
The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 3,632 new cases there, along with 89 new deaths, a record for the Volunteer State.
