One killed, two seriously injured in I-24 crash in Montgomery County

An east Tennessee resident who was driving the wrong direction on I-24 in Montgomery County Tuesday night was killed in a two-vehicle collision that sent two other people to a Nashville hospital.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated and determined 24-year old Fredneshea Thompson of Erwin was headed east in the westbound lanes near the 9 mile-marker and struck a westbound car driven by 30-year old Jeffrey Coale of Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, while Coale and his passenger—30-year old Sheila Swafford of Hermitage—were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
