Hopkinsville City Council will consider a property tax rate increase when they meet for the first time in September Tuesday evening.
The ordinance on the agenda for first reading would increase the tax rate on real property to 24.7 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value—an increase of eight tenths of one cent. That would mean an extra eight dollars annually on the tax bill for the owner of a $100,000 home.
The tax rate on personal property would actually decrease by three tenths of a penny to 24.8 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value.
Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown municipal center.
