Ky. gains 785 new COVID-19 cases, six new deaths

Kentucky saw a lower number of cases Thursday, as Governor Andy Beshear announced 785 new cases, following a record high day on Wednesday.

Those new cases bumps the overall total up to 37,686. The positivity rate is up to 5.67 percent and Governor Beshear says there needs to be a lowering of that number soon.

He says they continue to see children testing positive for the coronavirus, in all ranges of age, and so he feels confident his recommendation to delay the start of in-person learning was the right call.  Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says a school in Georgia had to shut down soon after opening due to an outbreak of cases.

Dr. Stack also urged people to remember to get their flu shot, because while the flu is bad on its own, paired with the pandemic it could push hospital capacity to its max.

Six more Kentuckians have died, putting the overall total at 796, while at least 8,965 individuals have recovered from the virus.  Governor Beshear says his administration is constantly double-checking the data and the numbers and correcting them when needed.

Tennessee gained 2,118 new cases, putting the total at 128,511 for the Volunteer State—there were 24 new deaths, up to 1,313.  Montgomery County gained 26 additional cases, Robertson County saw nine new cases and Stewart County remains at 79 cases.
