Dossett filing bill to help linemen who come to state in disasters

State Representative Myron Dossett is filing legislation this week which would exempt out-of-state linemen from Kentucky’s state income tax when they come to the commonwealth to assist other cooperatives following disasters.

Line workers from other states have come to the southern Pennyrile dozens of times over the years following tornadoes, ice storms and other severe weather and Dossett says his bill would make the process easier for those employees and their cooperatives.

He cites the 2009 ice storm that devastated much of western Kentucky as an occasion when mutual aid from electric cooperatives in other states was vital to getting the lights and heat back on.

Many other states have already passed similar legislation.
