Rep. Charles Booker considers a run for the U.S. Senate

There could be another contender in the race for the U.S. Senate in 2020 for the seat currently held by Mitch McConnell, as Representative Charles Booker is currently contemplating filing to run.

Representative Booker made a stop in Hopkinsville Tuesday and says he’s held several listening sessions so far and in most of them, including the 43rd district in Jefferson County that he represents, are ready for McConnell to go. He says for him it’s about more than just removing McConnell from office—it’s about doing what’s best for Kentuckians and making sure everyone is being heard.

He says he wants to make sure healthcare is affordable for everyone, is a supporter of environmental green policies, wants to improve the lives of those affected by the closing of coal mines, and he wants to be a voice for those who are oppressed or struggling. Booker would face Amy McGrath in a primary election, and he says that while both McGrath and McConnell have the money, he’s working to gain the support of the people.

Representative Booker says it is very possible to beat McConnell, and no matter what he will represent Kentucky to the best of his ability.

He doesn’t have very long to make a decision on whether he will run or not—the deadline to file is January 10, and the 2020 session of the General Assembly starts on January 7.
