Fields taking shape at new school, work continues at Stadium of Champions

With the Dead Period in the rearview mirror, high school sports are right around the corner.

For the new Christian County High School Tigers, it is an exciting time, although construction on football, soccer, baseball, and softball fields is still ongoing at the new facility.

Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel said on Monday’s Early Bird Show that the fields are beginning to take shape at the new school.

In addition, the Stadium of Champions is awaiting turf to be installed.

Bentzel said three things affect the work being done at the Stadium and at the new school fields – weather, availability of supplies, and availability of contractors.

Bentzel said all the fall sports and band is beginning their preparations for the upcoming seasons.

The first football game of the season is scheduled for Aug. 21 against Cooper at the Stadium of Champions. If the stadium turf isn’t ready by Aug. 21, the Tigers will go to Cooper and play their first five games on the road.

Christian County’s football team is scheduled to play Calloway County, Murray, and Graves County Tuesday in Murray in 7v7 play. The Tigers are scheduled to host Trigg County and Madisonville in 7v7 at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hopkinsville High School Blockhouse. On Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Southern Illinois University for a 7v7 tournament.

The official first day of football practice is July 20.
