Former Hoptown star Thompson enters transfer portal

Former Hopkinsville High School and Heritage Christian Academy pitcher JJ Thompson is looking for a new place to play baseball.

Thompson’s father, Jeromy, was a guest on the Early Bird Show on Tuesday and said his son had entered the transfer portal.

The left-handed pitcher finished 3-4 with a 7.49 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 38 walks this season for Wright State.

Last year as a freshman, Thompson was instrumental in the Raiders winning the Horizon League Tournament championship and was a key player in the team’s upset of Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament. He also was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team.

Jeromy Thompson said his son already has had several inquiries from other schools, but he has not decided where he will play next.

Thompson was the 2024 Prep Baseball Kentucky Player of the Year at Hopkinsville and led the Tigers to the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament.
