Benefit for the Bend returns on Saturday

Benefit for the Bend returns on Saturday, and folks are invited to eat and participate in a silent auction, all while supporting Jeffers Bend Environmental Center.

The benefit is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the dinner will include grilled pork chops and homemade desserts. Then the auction is set to include desserts, canned items and fishing equipment. Charles Turner from Jeffers Bend shared that they have over 80 auction items but are on the search for more.

The fundraiser is also coming at a time when Jeffers Bend is still recovering from flooding that impacted parts of western Kentucky in early April. Some of their buildings were affected by around 2 feet of floodwater, and Turner says the last flood that was as severe was in 1957.

Tuner says this year’s Hopkinsville-Christian County Leadership class helped with the clean-up and other projects, such as expanding the parking lot and installing steps. Overall, Turner says they lost around $30,000 to $40,000 worth of supplies and materials, so at this year’s benefit, they are focused on replacing what was lost.

Benefit for the Bend is on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Christian County Extension Office. Tickets cost $30 and can be bought by calling 270-885-5600.
