Timing issue forces rerun of Class 1-A, Region 1 track meet

The Class 1-A, Region 1 Track and Field Meet held Wednesday at Murray, will have to be run again after a scoring malfunction resulted in no official times being entered at the event.

Coaches and athletic directors of Class 1-A schools, including University Heights Academy, who competed in the meet were notified by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Thursday night that due to a variety of technical errors with timing and results process, the running events would have to be rerun.

The rescheduled meet will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell County High School.

Only the running events will need to be conducted again, as the field events were not impacted.

Due to the rerun and according to National Federation of High School rules, all performances from running events of the first meet will be voided, including place, time, and record, as well as team results and scoring. State qualifiers will only be considered from the performances of the running events in Saturday’s meet.

Athletes who may have thought they qualified for the state meet on Wednesday, also will have those results voided and will have to run again.

Although many schools are having graduation tonight, Saturday is the deadline to complete the region meets and report qualifiers and times to the KHSAA for the State Track and Field Meet, which is scheduled for May 29 at the University of Kentucky.
