Ortiz leads Rebels past Heritage Christian

Peyton Ortiz proved to be a thorn in the side of the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors in their high school baseball game on Thursday night.

The Todd County Central senior went 3-for-4 with a double and helped the visiting Rebels win their fifth straight game, 8-3, over the Warriors.

The Rebels scored three runs in the top of the first inning off HCA starter Collin Outland, who issued a pair of walks and hit a batter while giving up a single to Ortiz.

The Warriors drew within 3-2 in the bottom of the second as Cadyn Travis doubled to score Caden Hale and Chase Cook scored on a passed ball.

Todd (8-2) pushed their lead to 5-2 in the third inning as Ortiz singled to drive in a run and scored on a fly ball from Tommy Van Beber.

The Rebels added a solo run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to finish off their scoring.

The Warriors (3-8) added a solo run in the fifth inning Ethan Miles scored on an error.

HCA outhit the Rebels 5-4 with Outland also collecting a double on the day.

Todd’s Ty Jolly picked up the pitching win while Outland suffered the loss for HCA.

Hale, Caden Gresham, and Miles also singled for the Warriors, who return to action at noon Saturday in a home District 8 game against Hopkinsville.
