The time has come for students in Christian County—it’s time to pull on those back packs and brush off the dust from the summer, as the school year officially gets underway for Christian County Public Schools this morning.
That means you’ll see yellow buses traveling the city streets and county roads bright and early and then again in the afternoon, so plan accordingly. Superintendent Chris Bentzel asks for patience during the first couple of weeks when it comes to buses, as drivers are still learning their routes and everyone is getting back into the habits of picking up and dropping off.
The superintendent says they’ve also made updates to their school safety policies and procedures—each school has its own school resource officer, but also, they have weapon detection systems in place at the middle and high school, identification policies and security vestibules in place at each school.
Bentzel says the longer than normal summer break allowed them to not only rearrange facilities in the district, but also gave their teachers additional time to accomplish what they need to do before school starts and still get paid for it.
There are some traffic changes parents and drivers need to be aware of this year—thanks to the relocation of Indian Hills Elementary School to Koffman Drive. That means Koffman Drive at Hopkinsville High School and the new Indian Hills will be closed to through traffic each day between the hours of 8:10 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. Indian Hills visitors can access the school through South Sunset and HHS visitors can get to the high school via Lafayette Road.
