The Christian County Animal Shelter will see an increase in their adoption and other fees following action by the Christian Fiscal Court Tuesday morning.
Starting immediately, adult dog adoption fees will be $115, puppy adoption fees will be $110, adult cat and kitten adoptions will be $75 and fees to reclaim an animal from the facility will be $20 for each day the animal is the in the care of the shelter. Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says the increases are a way to help balance the costs of inflation in relation to medicine and food for the animals.
Magistrate George Barnett says this puts the local Animal Shelter at the same rates as other shelters in the state, and they’re not looking to make a profit.
Animal Shelter officials say they will now get all puppies and kittens at 2 pounds or 8 weeks old spayed or neutered to help cut down on pet overpopulation.
Before the meeting, Judge-Executive Gilliam, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight and Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver read a proclamation declaring April the Month of the Military Child, with Gilliam recognizing the students in attendance and the sacrifices they often have to make.
In other action, magistrates approved a measure making the pay for elections officers $285 per election cycle.
