It was a morning of celebration and recognition at the Christian County Agri-Business Association and Chamber of Commerce 2024 Salute to Agriculture Breakfast Tuesday.
Farmers, elected officials, agricultural leaders, community members and more gathered to celebrate agriculture and its impact and importance in Christian County. Kentucky Ag. Commissioner Jonathan Shell was the keynote speaker really bragged on Christian County and the tremendous agriculture industry we have here. He says Christian County’s agriculture industry has the blueprint for success.
Several awards were handed out at the event, recognizing Ben Westerfield as the Friend of Agriculture and Wheat Tech Agronomy as the Agri-Business of the Year. But the Farmer of the Year Award went to Brandon Hunt, who says it’s been a blessing and honor to be raised up in agriculture in Christian County and keep the traditions going.
Agri-Business Association President Ryan Milauskas highlighted some of the agricultural achievements in the county, saying Christian County ranks number one in both wheat and corn production in the state.
Seven $1,000 scholarships were presented to local Ag. students from the Troy Goode Memorial Scholarship Fund—since it’s inception, the Association has awarded up to $18,000 in scholarships.
Then, in a flurry of raised hands and shouts, the Country Ham Basket sold for $31,000 through a joint effort between H&R Agri-Power, Hutson, Inc. and Farm Credit Services. Money raised through the auction goes to benefit local 4-H and FAA programs.
