Hopkinsville High’s Antonio Williams wins Player of the Week

This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Antonio Williams.

Antonio is a senior at Hopkinsville High School and a member of the Tiger basketball program.

He has had a dominant season so far for the Tigers averaging 27.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.

For Antonio, he explained how basketball has been a part of his life for as long as he could remember.

Along with his love for the game, he cites his family as a reason he’s stuck with basketball.

Williams who stands at 6’6″ uses his height and athleticism to be one of the best rebounders in the state, says he wasn’t always the tallest and had his growth spurt right around the end of middle school.

Before the season Williams committed to play for Three Rivers College, a school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri apart of the NJCAA.

For Williams, the way he feels the coaching staff can help him get to Division 1 was a big reason he chose to play for their team, but as excited as he is to start his college journey, Williams says there are still things he wants to do in a Tiger uniform.

Head coach of Hopkinsville Anthony Babb shared his thoughts on Antonio and how impressed he’s been with his performance so far this season.

When asked about Williams leadership, Babb said it’s mostly done by example, but that Antonio will talk to his teammates when needed.

In a sport that he has played for majority of his life, the joy, pain, and overall feels of the game are his favorite parts about the sport.
