On Thursday night at Caldwell Co. High School, UHA made history by sweeping Crittenden Co. in the 2nd Region Championship 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17).
This marked the first region volleyball championship in University Heights Academy history.
Going into the postseason UHA was highly favored after being undefeated in the region during the regular season. In a postseason run that included a district championship, and now a region trophy, the Lady Blazers have not dropped a set, proving their dominance this season.
After the win UHA head coach Faye Hendricks reflected on her emotions after the historical moment.
In recent years, after winning the district championship five years in a row, Hendricks explained how a loaded senior class was one of the keys to pushing through the final door of the region.
For a lot of UHA followers, a season like this would not come as a surprise, due to the way this program has been built up and the comprising of 9 seniors on the team. Coach Hendricks talked about that winning culture that she and her coaching staff have worked to instill.
A Senior, Sarah Peebles full of excitement, also shared her thoughts on the win
In a fall sports season full of success to include the Boys’ and Girls’ soccer teams for UHA, Blazer fans otherwise known as BBN (Big Blazer Nation) have shown an ample amount of support.
Julia Thomas talked about what having that support has meant to her and the rest of the team.
Julia an the other Lady Blazers will be looking forward to that support as they will host McCracken Co. for the first round of the State Tournament on Monday, October 30 at 7:00 PM.
If UHA wins, they will travel to George Rogers Clark to finish the rest of the KHSAA State Tournament where in the second round they will play the winner of the Campbell Co./Notre Dame matchup.
