This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the week is Julia Thomas.
Julia is a senior at University Heights Academy and has been a member of the Lady Blazer Volleyball team since the 8th grade. Recently, she was also voted by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association as they Region 2 Player of the Year.
When asked what helped start her volleyball career, Thomas credited family ties.
Throughout her years in high school, she has continued to work on her craft and part of that work took place participating in club volleyball.
Thomas stands at a whopping height of 6’3″ and her incredible stature helps her dominate on the court. Julia leads the teams in kills (319) and blocks (89) those that have seen her play would not be surprised to hear her say hitting is the best part of her game.
UHA is having a historic season as they have won currently hold an ongoing 35-2 record. After already winning the 8th District, the Lady Blazers are searching for their first ever region championship.
For Thomas, she explained her motivation to win a region championship, and how eager she and her team are to be the first.
Coach Faye Hendricks has coached Julia since the 8th grade in her “baby giraffe” days, and when asked if she was surprised at how far Julia has come in the sport, this was her answer:
In hopes of the school’s first ever region championship, Julia and the rest of her UHA team will play at 6:00 PM tonight against Crittenden Co. at Caldwell Co. High School.
UHA has played and beaten Crittenden Co. twice this season already including earlier this month 3-1.
