Clarksville stylist organizes event donating custom wigs to those with hair loss

After coming across clients who were suffering from hair loss, Clarksville stylist, Markeisha Wardell says she was inspired to help them regain their sense of self by hosting her annual Select Your Crown Event where she plans to give away over 100 custom wigs to those in need.

Wardell is the owner of hair salon Rose Beauty Bar in Clarksville and she says the came up for the idea of Select Your Crown after she had patrons come to her salon for wig consultations because of hair loss, but were not able to afford custom wigs.

Wardell says it was heavy on her heart when she was not able to help. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic put her business on hold, Wardell says she took time to plan something to help those in need, so she started putting hair and money aside for Select Your Crown.

Select Your Crown is in its third year and Wardell says she wants to double the number of children and women she has been able to help in the past, but that depends on how much she is able to raise funds for the event.

To help with fundraising, Wardell is hosting Brunch With a Cause where all of the proceeds will go toward Select Your Crown.

Brunch With a Cause will be at Yada on Franklin on September 30 starting at 11 a.m. and tickets are $25 and can be bought at therosebeautybar.com. Wardell says the community can also support by registering as vendors and volunteers for the event at selectyourcrown.org.

Those who are suffering from hair loss interested in the chance in receiving a custom wig can also apply at selectyourcrown.org. Wardell says applicants will have to share their hair loss journey as well as pictures of their hair before and after hair loss.

Those selected to receive custom wigs will have their wig installed at the Select Your Crown event on October 22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wilma Rudolph event center. Along with receiving their custom wig, Wardell says participants will have the opportunity to get their makeup done and participate in the runway show.

Registration for volunteers, vendors, and applicants are open until October 15.
