Public library announces August’s community events

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is rolling out events in August to engage community members of all ages.

Interim Public Library Director, Tiffany Luna spoke on WHOP about what the library has planned for the month. Along with reading events Luna talked about craft workshops and an upcoming bingo night on August 24 at 5:30 p.m.

Luna highlights the library’s partnership with the Pennyroyal Arts Council and the Penny Royal Area Museum to bring the Big Read event to the community. The event aims to broaden readers’ understanding of the world and connect the community by reading a book together.

Monday kicked off the library’s knitting and crocheting workshop series, which continues on August 16, 21 and 30 at 5 p.m. at the library. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects.

The library will also host sewing classes on August 12 and 19 from 9 a.m. to noon, participants will work on sewing throw pillows.

The library is also set to host adult facing events.

Readers will have the opportunity to dive into stories with more mature themes at the library’s Dark Reads, Adult Book Discussion Group. On August 17 at 5:30 p.m. the group will be discussing “The Echo Man” by Sam Holland, copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk.

On August 29, the library is hosting Books at the Bar at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company at 6 p.m. Readers will be discussing the novel “Anthem” by Noah Hawley.

Luna says the library will be closed on August 25 and 26 for Summer Salute, but during the closure the librarians will be working a booth at Summer Salute.

Along with their events outlining August, Luna says the library is set to have renovations in the future. She plans to put out a bid for a contractor soon and have construction start by the end of 2023.
