Trial proceedings came to a quick conclusion Monday for murder suspect Leon Grimes, after he entered a guilty plea to amended charges in Christian Circuit Court.
A jury was seated Monday morning, but Grimes entered a guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, following what Circuit Judge Andrew Self calls superseding information from the Commonwealth—the plea comes with a recommended sentence of 15 years in total.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen says that the family of the victim has been present throughout the case and were in agreement with the charges and the plea deal.
Judge Self accepted Grimes’ plea of guilt for his role in the 2021 fatal shooting death of Calvin Buckner.
Final sentencing was set for August 30 at 1 p.m.
