MLB Update 6-12-2023

>>Andrew McCutchen Reaches 2,000 Hits

(Pittsburgh, PA)  — A Pirates legend is celebrating a milestone.  Andrew McCutchen earned his 2,000th major league hit during Pittsburgh’s 2-1 victory over the Mets on Sunday.  The outfielder scorched a leadoff single off Carlos Carrasco to become the fifth active player to reach 2,000 hits.  Miguel Cabrera with the Tigers, The Reds’ Joey Votto, San Diego’s Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus with the White Sox are the only other active players with 2,000 or more hits.  McCutchen signed a one-year deal in the offseason to come back to the Pirates.

>>White Sox Move Liam Hendriks To Injured List

(Chicago, IL)  — The Chicago White Sox are losing their All-Star reliever for the near-future.  Right-hander Liam Hendriks was placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation on Sunday.  Hendriks was sidelined for the first two months of the season after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma during the offseason.  In five games since his return from beating cancer, Hendriks was 2-and-0 with one save and a 5.40 ERA.  The Southsiders recalled reliever Tanner Banks from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Hendriks in the interim.

>>Rockies’ Charlie Blackmon Set To Miss To 4-6 Weeks

(Denver, CO)  — The Rockies are losing their right fielder for more than a month.  Colorado placed Charlie Blackmon on the 10-day injured list after he was diagnosed with a fractured right hand.  Blackmon injured his hand on June 3rd against the Kansas City Royals but continued to play through the injury.  The Rockies did additional X-rays over the weekend and found the fracture.  The 36-year-old outfielder is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks due to the injury.

>>Reds Edge Cardinals For Series Win

(St. Louis, OH)  — The Reds won their series against the Cardinals following a 4-3 victory from St. Louis.  The score was tied at three heading into the eighth inning until Tyler Stephenson grounded into a fielder’s choice which plated the go ahead run.  Alexis Diaz shut the door on St. Louis in the ninth to secure the win for Cincy.  The Reds are now 31-and-35 and sit third in the NL Central.  Cincinnati is back in action tonight.  Luke Weaver takes the mound in the first of three games against the Royals in Kansas City.
