Racers bring the heat to Ruff Park for Kiwanis Soap Box Derby

It was a beautiful day on the hill at Ruff Park, as kids raced down the track for the Kiwanis Soap Box Derby Saturday morning.

Although the races were hot, the temperature stayed pleasant for racers and the cheering crowd alike, as local children competed to see who will advance to the national Soap Box Derby in July. Race Co-coordinator Amy Rains says it was great day for racing, with good spirits from all involved and a good amount of kids participating this year.

The winners will advance to the All-American National race in Akron, Ohio in July and Rains says Hopkinsville has a history of winning.

Aldon Odoms won first place in the Super Kids Race this morning while Mason Gannon took second place.  In the Super Stock Division, Will Rader took first, True Menser took second, and Charles Cayce took third. In the stock division, Reese Jones took first, Tyreik Merritt took second, and Lewis Conrad took third. Then the Masters division saw Alan Rader take first, Audrey Rains came in second, and Justyss White claimed third.
