Severe weather threat persists Sunday afternoon, evening

Chances have increased slightly for severe weather across western Kentucky and middle Tennessee this afternoon and evening.

Almost all of the region is under a slight risk for severe storms, while the Oak Grove area of Christian County and almost all of Todd County and middle Tennessee are under an enhanced risk.

Meteorologist Ryan Presley with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the risk is greatest the farther southeast you go and while the primary threats will be damaging winds and large hail, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Severe weather will be most likely between 4 and 7 p.m. in the southern Pennyrile region of western Kentucky.

The projected rainfall amounts have been adjusted down slightly, as forecasters now expect Trigg, Christian and Todd counties to receive a half-inch to inch of precipitation.

Meanwhile, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for western Kentucky from noon until 7 p.m. as northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and higher gusts will make conditions hazardous for operators of small craft.
