Former Elkton mayor and community advocate John Walton dies

Former Elkton Mayor John Walton, who was involved in nearly every major industrial and economic development for Todd County the last several decades, died Tuesday morning from natural causes.

Walton served as Elkton’s mayor from 1999 to 2006, was chairman of the Todd County Industrial Foundation at times and was a member of the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council Board of Directors.

Former Todd Fiscal Court magistrate and Elkton city councilman Brent Spurlin remembered Walton as being involved with almost everything that’s happened the last several decades that made Todd County a better place.

EDC Executive Director Carter Hendricks says Walton was an irreplaceable part of their team who was willing to do anything he could to improve this region.

Walton was also a founding board member of the Green River Academy Historic Site’s Board of Trustees in 2009.
