MLB Update 6-06-2023

>>A’s Move To Vegas Hits Roadblock

(Las Vegas, NV)  — The Oakland A’s move to Las Vegas has hit a major stumbling block.  On Monday, Nevada lawmakers refused to move on a measure that would bring the A’s to Sin City through public financing of up to 380-million-dollars.  Then early Tuesday morning, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo tweeted he is considering calling a special session to help push the bill to the finish line.  The A’s have had the worst MLB attendance for years and are looking to move out of Northern California.

>>Rangers Move Jacob deGrom To 60-Day IL

(Arlington, TX)  — The Rangers will be without their ace on the mound a while longer.  Texas transferred Jacob deGrom to the 60-day injured list on Monday, pushing back his potential return to late June at the earliest.  The 34-year-old right-hander hasn’t pitched since leaving a start early on April 28th.  Texas general manager Chris Young said that deGrom “hasn’t improved maybe as quickly as we had hoped” following a handful of bullpen sessions since going on the IL.  The earliest he can return to the lineup is June 28th.

>>Cardinals Comeback Falls Short

(Arlington, TX)  — The Cardinals couldn’t finish off a two-run comeback during a 4-3 loss to the Rangers in Texas.  The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before giving up three runs in the next half-inning.  In the top of the eighth, St. Louis tied the game with a sacrifice fly from Paul Goldschmidt and an RBI double by Nolan Arenado.  However, Nathaniel Lowe hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give Texas the win.  Genesis Cabrera was charged with his first loss in relief.  The Cardinals remain in last place in the NL Central at 25-and-36.  Matthew Liberatore starts for St. Louis against the Rangers tonight.  In other team news, outfielder Dylan Carlson will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis tonight.

>>Reds Shutout Brewers To Avoid Sweep

(Cincinnati, OH)  — The Reds avoided a sweep against the Brewers following a 2-0 victory in Cincinnati.  Andrew Abbott earned his first win of the season after surrendering just one hit while striking out six batters over six innings.  Tyler Stephenson and Stuart Fairchild each blasted solo homers for Cincy, which snapped its four-game losing streak.  Cincinnati is third in the NL Central at 27-and-33.  The Reds are back in action tonight against the Dodgers in Cincinnati.  Luke Weaver gets the start opposite Tony Gonsolin.
